Description
Jared Dunefaellan, Captain of the king’s standing army, has managed to carve out a name for himself. After several victories, he is feared and respected, and is about to reclaim Wiekken’s most prized city, Lleweyan. But he is running out of time; already his genetic disease is maturing, changing him into the hateful man his father became. Before he can win the war, however, he’ll have to first conquer his addictions of alcoholism, sexual dysfunction and extremely distracting feelings for his best friend. In the meantime, Tarika is being forced to wed a tyrant, and Nathaniel reveals a shocking secret that throws their world into chaos. Everything comes to a head on a pirate ship of all things, and the prophecies surrounding Jared and Tarika play out in surprising, and occasionally disastrous, ways. Excerpt:
So what I thought would be just a brief account, or explanation, of my actions has actually filled a whole volume, forcing me to start a new one, here in this seemingly endless war as we attempt to retake the city of Lleweyan for Wiekken. So if you’re just some bloke who just picked this up and started reading, you should know there’s another full journal somewhere that you ought to read first before you start this one. On the other hand, I wouldn’t recommend reading either one. There are…quite a few things I chronicled just for my own reflection that weren’t meant for anyone else’s eyes. Well, maybe just Tarika or Nathaniel. Otherwise, consider this as your warning.Even with the fear of discovery, I can’t stop recording what’s happened. I guess I’m addicted to the cathartic benefits of regurgitating my sins on paper. I did go back, however, and re-read what I wrote in the first volume…oh, God. From what I gleaned in seeing myself in black and white like that is that I may or may not be a homosexual, I’m addicted to hot, kinky sex that has placed me in a position of treason (yeah, I’m fucking the enemy), and I’m destroying the people I love. It’s not exactly reminiscent of, say, Jane Eyre. Nor is it comparable to my father’s eloquent and redeeming chronicle of his own life and descent into madness from our shared disease. In summary, or What I Learned from my Summer Vacation by Jared Dunefaellan: I’m totally fucked.
